City of Montgomery: entrepreneur Highlight

Julie Bifano and Scott Stasney are co-owners and founders of the “Rustic Farmer,” a gathering and event space that opened in 2017 and expanded to include “Revival on Main” in 2020. Since opening, the spaces have hosted weddings, graduation parties, special events, and community events.

'Clipped' winner's topiary statues to reside in Minnesota city

Meghan Petricka's colorful pieces pay tribute to the history and heritage of Montgomery, Minn.

Bemidji has Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. North St. Paul has the giant snowman. And perhaps one day, topiary statues of Czech dancers will be synonymous with Montgomery, Minn.

Czech dancer topiary twirls into downtown Montgomery

One tradition that continues to remain prevalent in Czech towns like Montgomery is playing and dancing to traditional music.


 

“Well the May Pole was kind of a rite of passage for Spring. People were anxious to get Spring going and, which we are right now too, trying to get Spring going. And so it’s just a, kind of a ritual before Spring starts,” said organizer Jim Mladek.

Each year a traditional Czech May Day celebration is held in Montgomery, and this year was no different.

Montgomery readies for Czech May Day

Montgomery announces the return of its Czech May Day celebration. The event is from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 1 in Heritage Park, located on the corner of Vine Avenue and First Street North.

“I work with Helen Bednar and her husband, Wes, who operate Rural Route MN of Le Center for all my marketing strategy and website design,” Bifano stated. “We had fun coming up with all the very Czech ideas, and Wes is the one who did most of the graphic work on the windows… I think it turned out great.”
